Dell Inspiron 5150 @ wifi

so ive downloaded and installed ndiswrapper
set up my windows driver, and have come to this:

Prometheus:/usr/src# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present

according to online documentation, the next step is 'modprobe ndiswrapper'
however, i get an error:

Prometheus:/usr/src# modprobe ndiswrapper
FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.

i have searched more documentation about this but i can't find anything of relevance.
can someone please tell me what to do next?
