Dell Inspiron 1000 and Fedora Core 2 Graphic Installer

I'm trying to install Fedora Core 2 on my Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop.

When I first try to run the installer (default and nofb) I would get a mix of swirling colors and jagged lines. After some searching on the internet, I decided that upgrading my BIOS would do the trick, as it helped some others.

It helped slightly (no more swirling, just a solid grey with little lines going all across). My monitor is still detected as : Unknown.

Has anyone had any luck installing FC2 on an Inspiron 1000?

First, you do realize FC2 is in legacy support mode correct???? Would it not be better to install FC4 instead??? (just something to think about)

Install in text mode, not as pretty but should get the job done. Just type in 'linux text' minus the single quotemarks at the menu screen.

Also have a look at this;

I was making a suggestion........

The link provided shows a sample /etc/X11/xorg.conf file you can use as a reference.

There are several Dell Inspiron 1000 Fedora Install entries at www.linux-on-laptops.com that may help you. Also check out http://www.angelfire.com/linux/t_johson/ for writers experiences with several linux installs on your lappy. Be sure you have latest BIOS.
Good luck.
