debian testing etch not finding all my RAM

As it says, I installed etch succesfully on a packard bell w3110, specs http://support.packardbell.com/fr/my...mNr=PB24M02902 -

this worked great whereas sarge was recognizing close to nothing on the motherboard, especially not the network card - etch recognized it all (though I haven't been checking up on power monitoring etc) and during baseconfig even has a special "laptop" section.
Only bad surprise was, it's only finding 1 of my 2 sticks of RAM,
I have a 1GB and a 512 MB, and it's only showing (command 'free')900-ish for RAM, when it did show 1.5 Gb in Sarge and in windows..

i guess this is a wider problem than just laptop-related, but I'm not sure where to look/what can be causing that :S and googling for RAM is a bit hard - so anyone with clues. . . should I post output of dmesg?

cheers

Ok, this is documented eveywhere , the answer is: enable high memory support in the kernel, to allow RAM between 1 and 4 GB.
