Debian LCD resolution

I just installed Debian "Sarge" 3.1 on my HP pavilion...

I tried to install Woody about 6 times (literally) and it failed every time) Sarge installed correctly the first time...

My only problem is that I have an XGA screen (1024x768) and it's only running in 800x600...

I have run XF86Config about 10 times.. trying everything from the very highest settings (which should have broke my X Server) to the very lowest setting s with 640x480... and it never changes from 800x600...

The full resolutions are listed in the file after i create it.. So is there any reason that it would just be doing it's own thing rather than reading from XF86Config...??

P.S. - the new debian installer works much better than the woody one... it's still colored command line based... but much easier to comprehend than before... I'd still like to see it with a GUI install like RH, MDK or SuSE...

it _is_ reading from the XF86Config-4 file. copy and paste it here.

okay... I'm actually at work right now.. but i'll post it this afternoon... So, when I run XF86Config and it creates a new XF86Config file... than I should be copying/pasting it into the XF86Config-4 file?? If so... that's no big deal... though it doesn't make much sense..

Thanks though... I'll be posting it around 2:30 this afternoon... (central time)
