Cpufreq: setting ondemand failed

Hi all,
I have an intel dual core cpu in my laptop. I installed debian etch in it and I succesfully set cpu frequencies using cpufreq-utilities.

Yeasterday my laptop froze and I had to shut down with poweroff switch. After that at boot I read message:
Code:
CPUFreq Utilities: Setting ondemand CPUFreq governor...CPU0 CPU1 failed
Moreover the applet showing the cpu frequncies is always at the highest level, and at boot I receive an error message basically saying system cannot rescale frequancies of cpus

Tried to cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/... but the directory /cpufreq disappeared.

The strange thing is that I expected to see an higher cpu temperature, but this does not happen: cpu temp is around 50 degrees as when cpu scaling was working.

Any clue about waht is going on?

UPDATE..

I also realized that at boot I cannot enter the bios menu any longer. Could it be that something has gone corrupted?

Thanks

Sounds scary Very scary.

does the system still keep accurate time?

I have seen dead bios batteries do some very strange things.

Thanks for your reply

Uh, don't scare me even more

Actually my laptop works ok, no problem. The system clock keeps accurate time (and now is more than a week the "scary thing" happened). I also asked to a colleague and he says that probably when the system froze some firmwares have gone corrupted, and this is not a major problem unless I want to change the bios settings
