hey guys I am new to this ,I have a dell inspiron E1705,I do not know how to configure the sound card Sigmatel STAC 9200,could someone please give directions on how to do this

Get the most modern version of ALSA and run alsaconf to see if the card works.
(necessary or the speakers won;t switch off when headphone are plugged in.)
I'm using SUSE 10.0 on a DELL b120 and I had to put

modprobe snd-hda-intel
modprobe snd-mixer-oss
into my /etc/init.d/boot.local

because the yast sound conf was broken.

Try using the config tool for whichever distribution you're using first.

Hi,
I am running 2.6.16 on Dell Xps M140.
I tried running `system-config-sound' but it retirned 'No SOund card detected'. I could not find alsconf or anything like that.
Any help on this would be helpfull.
