Hi everyone,
I am new here, and I do hope you guys can help me. I have installed Linux RedHat 9.0 on my compaq presario X1000 and everything went really smooth except for one thing...the monitor. Linux could not recognize the monitor and right now I have some settings that allow me to have 800x600 as a maximum resolution, and with the wide screen of the laptop, really sucks.
Anybody knows how I can set the monitor correctly?Which driver?
Thanks a lot,
ajpug
well, in the XFree86 config file, it recognizes the video card as ATI Radeon Mobility M9 which it is correct, and the driver is Radeon.
But in the "Screen" part of the same file it has only 800x600 values as per the resolution.
hope you can help me.
Thanks,
ajpug
P.S.
It looks like if this config file takes over the driver's settings.
There must be some difference in how RH and SUSE have implemented XFree. My XF86Config file does not list my video card directly, only as "Framebuffer Graphics". When I check the hardware information section in the YAST control center, it correctly lists the ATI card and the SAX2 configuration tool shows a resolution of 1024x768 using the VESA driver.
You might want to check out the "Framebuffer Graphics" question or consider a switch to SUSE. The latest version SUSE LINUX 9.0 is to be released on Oct. 24.

I had to edit this file and manually insert the "1280x800" configuration. Make sure to backup your original file first. You should be able to choose the 1280x800 setting from your favorite graphical desktop.
Out of Curiosity, i recently bought this laptop, and am currently using it with a resolution of 1680x1050 (currently on XP)... Is it still possible to use that resolution in Slack?
