Welcome to the club! :)
After taking a quick look on the info I'd say you have the exact same computer as I have, only with Compaq branding instead of HP (my is a HP nx9105). Some resources: - My initial install review: http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...cat=521&page=1 - The Compaq R3000 series mailing list - The R3000 wiki The mailing list archives and wiki should provide you with most of the information you will need. Please feel free to join the list! Håkan |
tnx for that !
really cool with a mailing list for the R3000 laptop .. i have subscribed ! |
hmm.. starting a slackware 10.1 install on my laptop right now .. is it necessary to get the 2.6 kernel to get everything to work or could i stick to the default 2.4 ?
|
The 2.6 series kernels provide a lot better support for the hardware in the R3000 series compared to the 2.4. Support for ACPI (important!), CPU throttling (using the powernow-k8 module on the R3000 even if you have an "Athlon XP" CPU) Firewire, and so on have made great strides since 2.4. There is really no reason to run a 2.4 kernel on a laptop unless you are tied to an application that requires a 2.4 kernel.
