Boot sector SuSE creates after main OS install. Does it install the OS after format or hangs right after format?
If hangs right after format then two main reasons may be here:
1. Defected media (Install CD/DVD)
2. Wrong partitioning before install
How do you partition before install?

Compaq Presario M2000 ??

Hmm.. I have a Compaq Presario V2000z, which I believe is not very much different from the M2000. I too have the Turion ML 28.

Well, fauly hardware could indeed be a possible case, since the hard disk that came with my machine apparently had a lot of bad sectors. Debian simply failed to install on it. The BIOS had a hardware check which I ran, and it showed up some errors that I couldn't comprehend. So I had to email Compaq, and they said they would send in a replacement and that I should send mine back.

After that, well.. let us come to that later ( just know that installing linux on that hardware isn't a cakewalk -- a simple warning . .here is a whole thread on the discussion of V2000z, it should help you out too.)

I didn't mean HDD, rather Removable media such as CD/DVD install disks
