Compaq Presario A900 Slackware 13.1 Battery Has Been Removed

So I recently upgraded to Slackware 13.1 on my Compaq Presario A900 laptop. It's been wonderful--didn't have to fuss with my wifi LEDs or drivers. Except, there's one little prickly problem that kills my laptop as a laptop. ACPI power management seems to be configured pretty well. It seems to adjust LCD brightness and whatnot pretty well. But the problem is that whenever the screensaver kicks in, or the computer has been idle long enough to suspend, when I wake it up, it thinks the battery has been removed. This of course causes widespread panic and the laptop quickly shuts down on the grounds of a "critical" power level.

I had a similar issue with Slackware 12.2, but it never hit the critical power level immediately. It would say the battery was removed, but it wouldn't do anything about it. I had googled that issue and came up with one forum thread somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anymore. It basically said it's just a quirk of Compaq/HP + ACPI.

I'm hoping that someone has found a fix for it, or knows some place that I could start from to find a fix.

Thanks!
