compaq m2201tu model laptop trying to mount a usb hard disk

Hi,

I am using using a compaq m2201tu laptop and am using Redhat enterprise linux3.I m trying to mount a seagate hard disk that has 3 ntfs partitions and the system does not detect harddisk. When i browse it from the hardware browser it says myson inc. mass storage devce. In the details driver below it says unknown. If any one can solve my problem it would be great.

This may be more informative when i do
tail -s 2 -f /var/log/messages it gives me some messages like this

is that a custom kernel?

from what you posted it looks like you have 2 problems. One with your floppy drive and another with ur usb drive.

try "modprobe sd_mod"

Thanx for your reply, i did "modprobe sd_mod" but no output was dispalyed. After that i did dmesg which showed something like this. I am not worried about floppy drive bcz my system doesnt have one.

A the end if u can see the disk size it is assuming as 1gb where as the USB drive i have connected is 80gb.

it looks like your getting an awful lot of read errors, could you post the output of lsmod, if you have a spare cable laying around try that to.
