Compaq Laptop with Xircom Cardbus 10/100

Newbie question I am sure, but I just started getting into this about a week or two ago.

I have a Compaq Presario Laptop 1080 with a Xircom Cardbus 10/100 PCMCIA NIC.

Everything seems fine except no NIC drivers.

I have tried:
lspci -v
No ethernet listed. It does show the PCMCIA bridge: Cirrus Logic

dmesg | grep eth
Does nothing, expect goto a new command line.

I figure that the ethernet card is not being found. The PCMCIA services seem to load at startup reporting OK. I am not sure where to proceed.

I am running Redhat 7.0 with Gnome.

Please advise on how to proceed.

I have a Xircom 10/100 +56K modem. I have used it on Mandrake 8.2 and 9.1, Red Hat 8.0 and Debian Woody all without problems. The driver is either the Tulip driver or the xircom_tulip. First of all I would make sure that the PCMCIA services are working. You may also want to try a newer distro.

Sorry I have not been more help.

I will do a search. I am not 100% on how to test to see if the PCMCIA is working or not? Also, I am not 100% certain on how to install drivers.

I am thinking about using Redhat 9.0 but I am not sure I will have the space in order to do so. I only have a 1.3 GB drive and I really want to have Gnome to fall back on.

If you carefully watch what you install during the installation it should work fine (eg. no openoffice, KDE, and kernel source).

The modem and NIC worked without any additional configuration right after the install.

Good Luck!

I dl Redhat 9.0 and I am trying the install right now. I have my fingers crossed. I will say the installation process seems to have gotten better since 7.0
