Exclamation Compaq Kernel Panic!!!

AAh. My pal's compaq armada 7710mt has a corrupted windows so he re-formatted it. Now, it starts and says, "Invalid System Disk- replace the disk and then strike any key" It seems normal, seeing as 1 it has no floppy drive, but it has an reformatted harddrive. No OS! I put in linux and it keeps having a kernel panic... to every distro I own! The cd drive is ok.

To add some clarity, it says this when I try to add slackware:

Kernel bug at page_alloc.c:100!
invalid operand : 0000
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010 : [<c0130bc4>] Not tainted
EFLAGS: 00010206
eax: 00000000 ebx: c1000780 ecx: 08000000 edx: 00000000
esi: 0000002b edi: 00000000 ebp: 00000029 esp: c0361f5c
ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018
BLAH BLAH my wrist hurts...

<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!
In idle task - not syncing

Gawd... I need help with this. It is 150 Mhz with 81920 Kb of ram. It has a 1.6Gb hdd (I know this has no enough space... but I need >something< to boot!) and it used to have windows 95.

Pleez help, Clay Casto

try the following:

a) reseat the memory chips
b) recompile the kernel
c) at the lilo boot: try the "apm=off" option
d) flash a newer bios
