Compaq Armada 1750,Installed Dreamlinux,No sound?

I am new at the hole Linux thing.I had a friend burn me a bootable copy of dreamlinux. I got it installed, but the problem is that the Alsa config. seems to be corrupt. The Alsa window will open but when I hit the enter key for "ok", to move forword, it just writes over the window. On the boot CD, it seems to work fine, but does not find a sound card or chip. Is there a driver that I can download to get my sound up or is there a bigger problem with the solftware? I hope to make my dream come true and learn this system.
