compaq 2800 fedora core 2 acpi lcd brightness problems
Ok, perplexing problem here.
System specs:
Compaq Presario Laptop 2800T
Fedora Core 2 - fresh installation
The problem:
While installing or on boot *before* X.org starts, I can use the function keys to turn the LCD brightness up and down, and the button on the lid will turn the LCD on and off. Right about when the GUI login manager loads, it stops working. The battery monitor works the whole time. (the battery monitor is ACPI only on this laptop, it will not work without ACPI being functional).
Kernel boot options:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358 ro root=LABEL=/ psmouse.proto=imps acpi=on rhgb quiet
I have also tried:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358 ro root=LABEL=/
In redhat's 'services' manager, I have tried turning APMd off, thinking that it was causing problems, since this laptop doesn't really have any APM stuff.
/sbin/lsmod (relavant stuff only):
radeon
button
battery
asus_acpi
ac
Other strange info:
The LCD buttons working fine with FC 2 test3. When I upgraded to the final release of FC2, it broke. Since then, I wiped the hard drive and did a clean instal of FC2, only to come up with the same result.
Any ideas?
