Ok, it's probably a problem with Xorg's ati driver, I've seen it myself. Try changing the Driver "ati" to "vesa" and see what happens.

Ahhh you sexy people at last its working;i read a fix for it in openSUSE.

Basicly went in under the failsafe option, logged in as root
typed in sax2 -m 0=vesa

This brought up the display properties, I changed the resolution and the monitor to LCD and run at 75mhz. Rebooted and hay presto I'm in it's working fingers crossed.

I have no idea what sax2 -m 0=vesa means I've probably done what you just suggested masonm.

People once again thank you very very very munch for all your help,I can now begin on my journey of discovery.

I'm sure I'll be back very soon to bug you all again with my inexperience.
