cd/dvd recognition
When trying to install the distros Mandriva 2005le and Suse 9.2 the dvd/cd drive is not found after the gui installation has loaded. It promts me for a disk or tells me to hd install.
Could this have something to do with pci express on this acer 4651Lmi? Help needed, cause I'd really like to install via cd/dvd |
HArdware compatible ?
Could be, are you sure your hardware is compatible with Linux?
Seems strange that from the CD drive you start the install after the reboot it wont read teh CDROM? or Am i missing something? |

installation from FC4 works fine, therefore it seems strange that the hardware is incompatible with linux. Any way to load the bus/ dvd-vdrom driver at startup...????
keep in mind that my laptop uses pci-express.... And this problem occurs just after the installation boots up, when it is supposed to start copying files from the dvd/cd... Just there it auto-detects hardware..and thats when my cd/dvd rom dissapears.... |
I went through the same thing when i changed kernels. i had to edit my /etc/lilo.conf and remove hdc=ide-scsi. scsi emulation isn't needed in the newer kernels. and after i removed it, it worked fine.

That sounds plausible....
can you please tell me how....? When I boot up from the install dvd, I can enter the install prog. How do I do it from there? Or is there a command I can execute while booting the install cd/dvd like the noapic for example? I'm a noob...so help is really apreciated! |
Is your linux installed on the harddrive or only bootable from the cd?
|
and another thing you could post here for more info is /etc/fstab

Hi again,
Well, I am unable to actually install this linux, so therefore I cannot post /ect/fstab... Guess what I need to is somehow load my dvd/cd drive up , or like the previous post said: disable the scsi... But how to enable this is beyond my skills... The wierd thing is that by default it is enabled, only when it boots up, and proceeds after initial install screen, it detects hardware..thats when it disappears. I have the iso on a different partition (fat), but am unable to type the right path to it, when I get the chance to select the iso. --> this could be the best alternative (have been able to install from hda5 (the fat partition) with a couple of other distros) So if someone could let me know how to type the path for an image that is located on a drive suze install finds to be hda5 or hdc5.... in a way so it recognizes the iso...??? thx |
