Can't use webcam on Ubuntu 7.10?

My dream is to become a Linux guru. Hoping to turn on less fortunate people to computers for free. I'm also hooked on installing the latest Linux distro out and seeing how it performs.

Why cant I get the same webcam that worked fine on Ubuntu 7.04 to work on 7.10?? I get: error Image magic needed. See Jasper Image converter.... and then gives the website (which doesnt exist anymore, So I googled for Jasper image converter. I ended up with a website that is user unfriendly. I found no help on the Ubuntu forums.

Thanks to anyone that can direct me to the right channels!!!

Image magic sounds like the popular imagemagick software package. Try:

Code:
sudo apt-get install imagemagick
to see if that helps.

I tried the code: sudo apt-get install imagemagick

It seemed to install. Yet when I try to (send/use) my webcam, this information bubble pops up:

I cannot find the jasper image convert program.
jasper is required to render the yahoo webcam images.
Please see http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?p...bcam%20Support for further information.

On the one hand you could take the red pill ... and on the other hand you could take the blue pill.

I think I know which one you're gonna take.

No threat...if you don't like Linux then don't use it.

But if you want help you won't get it by complaining.
