Cant get FC3 to recognize my Sony 1280x800 monitor

I have FC3 installed om my Sony Vaio S580 laptop but I cant get it to use all of the screen. The laptop has a NVIDIA GeForce 6400 go video chipset, and i have installed the drivers, but i still cant get it set to a wide screen resolution. I have about an inch on each side of unused monitor, although it is filled from top to bottom. I tried changing the settings in the xorg.config file but that did not help either.
