Can't find | key in Kurumin Linux and need to change Keyboard config.

So, I'm trying to find out how change (or add) the | key for a Brazilian Debian distro. I checked their forum and they said that I needed to change the keyboard layout. When I asked, I haven't received a response. Anyone know how to do this? The GUI I use is KDE. They keyboard layouts are Brazilian and American. How can I edit these? In the American, at least, I have full function minus this one key.

Try editing your /etc/environment if you don't happen to have a "Choose language" option in your login manager (that would be GDM, KDM, XDM or similar; the graphical thing that asks for username/password when you log out/are logging in).

In /etc/environment change the LANGUAGE= (or LC_ALL= or LANG=) line so that you have your own xx_YY (like en_EN or fi_FI@euro for example) instead of the one that there is (en_US or something?). I'm not certain what language you'd like to use, but if you know, then try. After altering the file you'll need to log out & in, and if you're running X, probably restart it all over (CTRL+ATL+BACKSPACE)

Okay, here's the problem, though: I already have english layout. Is there something that I can do to ADD the | key onto my keyboard (like when I strike that key, it registers that character)??
