cannot detect USB


Hi All, i have been trying to find out how to connect USB with my redhat server, but i donot know how to do it because i am new to linux.

when i hvae connected my usb phone to computer and run command
lsusb the output was
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 6547:0232
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

when i run command dmesg the out comes

and when i run wvdial , the output was

--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory

please let me know how to use usb gsm modem, or a simple usb drive to redhat enterprise linux.

Make sure that when u r going to plug the usb connecter phone it is in "Mass Storage Device mode".

Your current kernel must support this device.

Which version of kernel u r using?
Send me the output of "uname -a".

hi..thanks...after running command 'uname -a', i found kernel version 2.4.21, please suggest me what can i do, do i have to recompile/reinstall redhat or any other thing.

U try to use Fedora 9. Probably it may give u the driver.

OR

Try to use 2.6 version of kernel.
