can't mount cdrom on my toshiba satellite pro 420cdt with zipslack

I can't seem to mount my cdrive in zipslack.I've tried "mount /linux/mnt/cdrom", or "/linux/dev/cdrom". And all I get is XXX is not a real block device or can't find in ftab.

Is this a simple or common problem?

Am I just being a silly n00b?

One thing I was going to try to do is change my kernal, but I don't really know the difference between the kernals or how to put a new one in from windows.
