Can't sync TE2 with GPilot or JPilot on FC4

I'm very new to Linux and trying to make the switch. I do however, love my Palm and miss being able to sync. I have a Tungsten E2 and am running FC4. Ideally I would like to sync it with Evolution using GPilot (or if there is another way), however from what I've read this can be quite a pain. I would gladly settle for being able to sync with JPilot. First off, with GPilot, the app crashes almost as soon as I try to sync from the Palm.

The Application "gpilotd" has quit unexpectedly.

If I load jpilot from command line as root or myself and hit the sync button on the palm, wait for ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 to show up, then hit the JPilot sync button it just tells me:

J-Pilot: sync PID = 5871
J-Pilot: press the hotsync button on the cradle or "kill 5871"

The process ID of course changes every time I quit JPilot and try again.

Like I said, I'm very new to Linux and not quite sure exactly what I'm doing. I really haven't been able to find a good how to or walkthrough on setting up the whole process with either gpilot or jpilot. Maybe I just don't know where to look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is quite some documentation on the pilot-link in Linux. You can google for that, this would be a good starting point
http://www.pilot-link.org/
before you can sync you need to check a few things,
after you connect your Tungsten to the computer (even before you hit hotsync) what are the messages you notice in dmesg (if you are new to linux, you can type dmesg on the console)
this should give information regarding your palm being recognised on the computer. you could post relevant parts of dmesg if you cannot understand that.
there is a better way to debug the connection with the palm
try this on the console
pilot-xfer -l -p /dev/ttyUSB1
this should list all the databases installed. I use a zire 72 so I have a USB connection. Not sure about Tungsten though.
