boot process sometimes stops on samsung r40...

Hi,
i got a samsung r40, with intel duo2 core and ati radeon xpress200 that came with XP. I made a dual boot with ubuntu, had some trouble with detection of the graphic card but most of the times its running. But sometimes the boot process is simply not successful. No way to get some boot messages either. After switching it off once or twice,... it gets going without problems. Sometimes it has switched the keyboard layout from german to en-us. Do you know whats going on? Would be great if you tell me!
Thanks a lot, j

When you successfully login edit your grub menu.lst file
$ gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.list

and the change "splash" parameter :
splash=0

In future boot process you will not have the splash screen - may be it will give few hints to you.

good idea, thanks! unfortunately the screen turns dark after some messages and then keeps me waiting again. This time it recovered at least and got booted after about 6 minutes...The last icould read on the scren before turning dark was sth with "translated"

The best is backup your data and reinstall Ubuntu. Did u enable some unknown repositiores ?

Normally stuffs like keyboard layout should not change automatically.
