boot problems with dell laptop

I am new to Linux and need a little help. Everytime I try to boot, no matter what distro (slackware, redhat, mandrake, knoppix, college linux, yellowdog) it hangs on the command to set the system time from the hardware clock. Is there any way that I can bypass this attempt to set the system clock and boot without it?

:newbie:

When it 'hangs' try pressing the escape sequence "Ctrl" + "C"; it will probably end the running foreground binary and init will pass to the next scheduled application.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH. I spent about 15 hours yesterday installing all kinds of different distros and trying to figure out if i had a hardware conflict... nothing checked out...

...and the "Ctrl" + "C" worked!!!!!! You rock!!!

But now you should try to really 'fix' the problem. I suggest that you post a thread exposing your problem in the Software forum. You are welcome :)
