Well I did an online update to my opensuse linux system and with it came an kernel upgrade to
2.6.18.8-0.3 version. Then I tried the RAM upgrade again (just sticking in the other 1 GB RAM module)and tried to boot.
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 With 1 GB RAM boot up, everything runs fine (including sound and networking)
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 with 2 GB RAM after a short message of the boot loader (stage2 ...) the screen goes black and remains that way!
So no boot!
Even the previous workaround won't do it anymore!!!
2.6.18.8-0.3-failsafe 2 GB boots up including GUI and sound but NO NETWORKING!!!
Summery:
Boot
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 1 GB RAM boot ok, everything works
Boot
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 2 GB RAM NO BOOT (just a black screen!)
Boot
2.6.18.8-0.3-failsafe 2 GB boot ok but NO NETWORKING!!
