Unhappy Boot difficulty & no sound after RAM upgrade on Toshiba P100-194 with opensuse 10.2

After a fierce battle to get my sound card to work on my Toshiba P100-194 laptop with opensuse 10.2(see thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?p=2642299 which helped me a lot!!!) the battle continues!
I try to upgrade my RAM memory from 1 GB RAM (currently using one 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz PC2-5300 RAM memory module)
to 2 GB RAM (Just inserting another 1 GB RAM memory module into the slot. Both RAM modules are the identical and are from CORSAIR).
Trying to boot with 2 GB RAM using the opensuse 10.2 2.6.18.8-0.1-default option it loads in the grub boot loader and afterwards the screen just goes black until after a few minutes the laptop turns itself off.
But if I boot first into winXP or the failsafe opensuse 10.2 2.6.18.8-0.1 option (which both boot) and then making a reboot into 2.6.18.8-0.1-default option, opensuse 10.2 eventually boots up with 2 GB RAM but with NO SOUND!!!
Unfortunately I can't find any hints or error messages indicating where the problem might be.
Any help is really appreciated!

Thank you!

Ok, first things first. Did you do the apci fix? Try booting with kernel option "acpi=off" as a test for sound (don't run this way for long as you will lose fan control). If that works, then you need to refix acpi. Follow the tutorial in the link you posted.

If that doesn't fix audio, check your sound driver. You should be running alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3 at a minimum, but alsa-driver-1.0.14rc4 has almost all of the latest changes to the Conexant code (today's patch should have no effect for your system).

I have updated my build environment to build rpms for the latest test release. You can download it from here.

Question after the online upgrade

Well I did an online update to my opensuse linux system and with it came an kernel upgrade to 2.6.18.8-0.3 version. Then I tried the RAM upgrade again (just sticking in the other 1 GB RAM module)and tried to boot.
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 With 1 GB RAM boot up, everything runs fine (including sound and networking)
2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 with 2 GB RAM after a short message of the boot loader (stage2 ...) the screen goes black and remains that way! So no boot!
Even the previous workaround won't do it anymore!!!
2.6.18.8-0.3-failsafe 2 GB boots up including GUI and sound but NO NETWORKING!!!
Summery:
Boot 2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 1 GB RAM boot ok, everything works
Boot 2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 2 GB RAM NO BOOT (just a black screen!)
Boot 2.6.18.8-0.3-failsafe 2 GB boot ok but NO NETWORKING!!

what are the kernel options for 2.6.18.8-0.3-default and 2.6.18.8-0.3-failsafe? That might provide a clue as to where the problem lies.

Also, when you added the new memory, did you enter the bios setup and resave? Some systems require this, even for a simple memory upgrade.
