battery only lasts 2hours!! WIth WIndows it could do 6h

it is a brand new laptop that came with Windows:)
with windows it could go 6h on battery. ( 12 cell battery)
With linux the battery is dead after 2 or 2.5h !

Why?

Did you happen to enable power saving before shooting off this question?

Also, look into a little thingy called "Laptop Mode", it's very cool.

i have acpi running.

but what other stuff can acpi do other than acpi -V?

use "laptop mode" and acpi; also, use the cpufreq processor scaling driver - you would probably get 6h under windows cause it switches off the harddrives unless absolutely necessary, and drops the cpu clock speed to its minimum; you can do the same with linux, using the cpufreq driver and some approproate daemon (such as cpufreqd, cpudynd or powernowd), some acpi event scripts, and laptop_mode. and don't forget to manually turn down your lcd brightness

where do i find that cpufreq driver ?
