ATI Rage 128 Mobility on Dell Inspiron 8000 not working on fedora 4

hi,
my problem is simple
X configuration is not correct. After i installed fedora core 4, the laptop restarted and the screen blacked out.
I know that the installation was ok and the rest of the system is working properly. All i need is the xorg.conf to be configured properly.

Details of my machine:
Dell Inspiron 8000
ATI Rage 128 Mobility

Would any body pleaaaaaaaaase help me?

It may be a problem with the ATI drivers. i had a similiar problem for 4 onths when i was unable to get my ATI 9600Pro working properly on Fedora 4 ( apparently the ATI driver sdont seem to work properly on FC$, they work fine on FC3 though ). below is a link to that article i had started, check out my xorg.conf and compare with yours.

if nothing seems to work out, i would suggest downgrading to fedora core 3, it seems to have no bones with ATI. incase u want to know, to chech your xorg.conf ( since ur computer aint loading fedora ) you simply insert the FC4 dvd and boot up. in the options menu you select rescue and it will then load your entire partition onto the folder : /mnt/sysimage/. from there do "vi etc/X11/xorg.conf" and see if you find any discreprencies there compared to my xorg.conf. dont make any changes though, let me know asap what you have found and i will see if i can present a sollution.

tk care.

Same video card as my dell inspiron 5000e and similar problem that I had.

FC4 never is able to properly ID my video and monitor. I use the Dell 1600 Laptop Display from the display properties at install and it works fine... sorta.

I get the resolution of 1600x1200 (which is fine for my eyes, but a lot of real estate to cover with the touchpad). I have not tried the other resolutions, but am in the process of installing new hard drive at the moment. As soon as that is in and I have FC4 reinstalled, I will check and see.
