ati drivers on kubuntu

Hello everybody:
I'm having problems with kubuntu 12.10.
Namely "additional drivers" can't find the drivers for ati mobility radeon HD 4250.
Tried to install manually, baut didn't work anyhow.

Thankyou.

How exactly did you try to install it manually? The fglrx driver should do the work (I haven't such a card myself), and you should be able to install it by

sudo apt-get install fglrx

As a note I would remind you that open-source radeon driver does exactly as good a job in many cases (games being a notable exception), so I wouldn't go for fglrx unless you are clear you need more performance.

For that card the standard Catalyst 12.8 will not work, you need the Catalyst 12.6 Legacy driver: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...eon_linux.aspx
Since the driver installer will compile a kernel module you also need the build tools and the kernel headers installed on the system:
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

Thankyou for the quick answers.
Finally decided to uninstall fglrx and stick with open source drivers.
As you may note both answers were right and complemetary.
Now everything is running nice.
(The forum is extremely helpful and you members are very patient with newbies like me)

For future reference, this blog post explains easy ways to get the proprietary drivers working with legacy cards on *buntu 12.10: http://www.unixmen.com/ubuntu-12-10-...roblem-solved/
