Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I've tried Fedora 1 and Mandrake 9.1 on my Asus M2 laptop, and both OSs work fine except for the lack of sound. The sound card is Intel, ICH4 845G/GL Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller using i810_audio module.
Here's what I got when I ran /sbin/lsmod on Mandrake 9.1:
I have an ASUS M3N with Mandrake 10.0 and i have the same problem with the same sound card. There seems to be another problem with APM, since Mandrake doesn't recognise my battery (ON/OFF) and the battery indicator doesn't show battery level... I've read somewhere in the net those two problems can be connected (IRQ conflict?) but the guy didn't know how to solve them either... Hope someone can tell us how to put these things working...
