HELP!!
Hello I am new here but I am hoping to become a regular and with this laptop I most likely will!!
I was a regular linux user in the past but so much has changed in the last few years, and I thought I would start off with Mandriva 2006.
Now bear with me here. I loaded Red Hat9 on this laptop wihtout any issue and it functions fine, the only other distro I had was knopmyth and except for the tv tunor card part it loaded and worked fine.
Now I loaded a much newer distro (Mandriva 2006)which should have a better library of drivers.
When I loaded it it detected the video correctly and loaded the same generic driver for lynx as Red Hat did but the video was full of clipping and artifacts and Red Hat wasn't with the same driver.
Mandriva on the other hand had more and newer lynx video drivers, (Forgive me I do not have it in front of me) such as the SMI 3D 721 (Lynx 3DM) with 8 MB which is the card detected. I tried to tell it to load that driver it prompts me to logout then in but then still shows the same generic driver loaded as before instead of the new one.
How do I fix this? the same lynx generic was fine in red hat so is this video issue driver related? and why won't the new one load?
Thanks in advance...
