Unhappy asus eee password not being recognized

I have had the eee pc since april but just changed the personalization to ask for the password. When I restarted it would not recognize the password I set. I rebooted and still its not letting me in. Does anyone know how to get back in?? Thanks

Ok, just to check the obvious quick, did you check to see if the caps key is active or not ? There are also live distro's you can use to reset the password. There is even one or two with a built in text menu for exactly this issue.

still trying.....

Yes I have checked the obvious errors...............and this seems to be a typical problem with other eee pc users. I am trying to avoid the F9 key if at all possible. Wondering if anyone has found a way with out having to restore my stuff.
Thanks!!!!

Hope this link helps you

Kat03, This link should help you.

Here is a link that should help you, Good luck.

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:help_f...logon_password

I have some other things I must do over the next week to week and a half, therefore I must keep this short. Sorry about that as I prefer to give more detailed answers when I help someone. And I understand that you might not be that proficient with Linux. You can do this, just take your time and be patient with yourself.

You can research how to use a USB device to boot from, which will let you do the following:

1) boot up (usually in Single User mode for most Linux distros, your distro might be different however the process is the same)

2) mount the device (the harddisk on the Asus)

3) edit the files (vi is the Linux editor most people use) to change your password.

4) reboot the Asus Eee PC and you are done.

Note: When you are doing something you have never done before, before editing a file, make a copy of the file first. If you run into trouble editing the file you can quit (without saving) and boot back up on the USB device and than edit the files in question a second time.

Good luck

P.S. When this happened to a friend of mine I had already gotten her in the habit of backing up the data files she was working on so we could just use the F9 key, very handy. And remember that the Seagate external 500 GB hard disks will plug and play just fine with Xandros (Debian) therefore you can add allot of storage on a very portable device for about $109.00.
