Assistance required


Hey
I have Dell inspiron 1525 Laptop (C2D Processor with Windows operating system, i would like to install Linux OS in my Laptop retaining the Windows (basically partitioning the Hard Drive), i am confused to choose form the distribution list (Ubuntu, Fedora etc), kindly advise me on the following
  1. How to install the Linux Operating System
The procedures i have to follow for installing, and also partitioning the hard drive

I appreciate the assistance

Your question has been asked and answered many times, so if you google for it, you'll likely find many decent tutorials. Here's one to get you going: http://www.howtoforge.com/windows_linux_dual_boot
Have you tried linux at all yet? The best way to get started, with the least commitment, is with a liveCD, which are provided by most major distributions these days: http://www.livecdlist.com/?sort=&showonly=
