Hey, dude... I don't know exactly how to answer your question, but I have an Inspiron 1545 and I have installed Ubuntu 9.10
well... all the drivers was there including the touchpad that worked normally, except by once when it wasn't working, but i plugged an usb mouse and restart the system solved it
guess the drivers don't differ that much from 9.04 to 9.10
sorry for my stupid advice but, maybe it can be helpful

When I loaded Ubuntu on my Panasonic CF-72 Toughbook, I had to do my first update with my wired LAN to get the "restricted" wireless driver packag installed. After this update, no big problems.

8.10 and 9.04 worked for me, 9.10 worked but only the live version (update didn't work, didn't try HD install). I decided I was sufficiently advanced enough though, after the catastrophic upgrade, and moved to fedora.
