I'd just like to post my results:

I am using slackware 10 and my card has the number 8420-WD on the back, or maybe it's 8421 but if the card uses the hermes II chipset, then the driver you want is at this link:

however, if you are going to be testing your wireless lans security with kismet, netstumbler or whatever other programs are out there, i belive this card is of no help to you because I think you have to be able to put the card into monitor mode or whatever and this driver doesn't support that.

but, i got the card working, although i am very new to linux, jut use that driver and follow the directions in the readme....if you just skim it you'll miss important stuff, i did, so read carefully.

but yes, the orinoco card with teh hermes II chipset will work in linux
