anyone done a full USB install of Slackware 12.2?
I just picked up an Asus EeePC 1000HE and wondering if it's possible to do a complete slackware install from USB, which would house the boot files and the full package for the install?

I have never actually done this, but I know it can be done. See the Booting.txt file at any Slackware mirror:
http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/sla....2/BOOTING.TXT You want the usbboot.img: http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/sla...xe-installers/ And here is the link to the usb installer on Eric H's wiki: http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackboot/usb/ |
I installed Slackware 12.2 from a USB stick on my netbook (dell mini 9) and it runs well. I didn't do a full install with all packages to save space on the drive (16GB SSD).

I did Slackware 12.2 onto a Dell Mini 9 as well - it worked without a single problem! Like vinegaroon did, I spent a good 10 minutes selecting which packages I did and didn't need.

Awesome, can't wait to give it a try, I did manage to get backtrack4 beta booting off usb and got the wireless card working, now I just want to migrate this XP Home install completely while being to cheap to get an external rom.

Well I grabbed the latest usbimage from the pxe and usb installer directory from my slackware iso, done the above slackboot commands from alien, booted up my netbook with USB and got a no operating system error, the files did copy over from the dd command, is there something that I am missing? Got the fill image on my desktop shared out for the rest of the install, im just not getting that far yet.

You do not, necessarily need to do this from the Slackware installer - you could do it with a live distribution if you so desire. |
