Ancient Laptop - Trying to Use Slip without Success

I have an old Toshiba Satellite 115CS (100 MHz with 520 MB hard drive and 16MB RAM). The thing doesn't even have a CD (or even a place to put one). My friend screwed up his Windows 95/98 and now wants me to re-install it for him. I have the Win 98 CD with me but since the machine doesn't have a CDROM, it's not of much help. I'm trying to find some way to use slip, but haven't had much success. I have a serial null modem and a workstation (my computer) with Debian. Any ideas? Thanks...
