Alsa

Can someone tell me the proper way to install ALSA on a Gentoo setup on an Alienware Area-51m?

I can't find out what model number my sound card is..i'm having a major problem getting it to work..

I actually have it halfway working, but it's in half duplex mode and I get errors when other programs try using the sound card when nothing is using it..

Have you tried running

Code:
lspci
or

Code:
cat /proc/pci
to see if either one displays what your sound card is?

I reinstalled the driver and followed the steps on that link you sent me and I also did the instructions on how to install the intel8x0 driver...

I have sound...but i'm back to where I was..

I can only play one sound at a time.. if something is using /dev/dsp..i can't use /dev/dsp0 or /dev/dsp1 and so on because it is in use..

Will my sound always be like this or is there a way to fix it?
