Adjusting how much volume jumps with volume keys

I have a Compaq Armada e500 running slackware 9.1. Sound works fine, but in kde when I hit the volume up or down keys it increases or decreases it by like 10%. How can I adjust that? I can't find a hotkeys config file anywhere that may have those buttons in them. Also tried searching for a volume up or down script without any luck either.

If you are using XMMS you can configure this in the 'iTouch KeyBorad Control' plugin under the general plugins section.

I use xmms, but I want to adjust the master volume that it already adjusts now, just change the adjustment factor from 10% to 5% or whatever. Forget the actual name, k something or another. Found in one topic how to do it, but that was meant for people who's volume controls don't work at all right now. Mine does, just have to change the jump distance.
