ACPI problems
Greetings all,
I am having a small problem. I am a RANK newbe on linux I installed SUSE 10.0 on my Toshiba A75 Laptop. I have it dual booted to WIN XP. The problem is when I boot to SUSE, I have to go into Boot options and type in acpi=off If I dont do that the computer will lock up. What is the file that I can edit so that I do not have to put that in all the time??? Or even a better idea How to fix the problem with acpi on a Toshiba Satilite a75 s2131 Remember I am a VERY RANK NEWBIE about linux Thanks for your time Glen Pinkston gpinkston1965@yahoo.com |
To add boot parameters, go into YaST, System, Boot Loader. It will show your entries for SuSE + Windows. Select SuSE, then edit and it displays the line containing boot parameters currently used. Simply add "acpi=off" to the end of line and click OK to write grub back to disk.
Not sure about that particular model of laptop, but a quick google might return some results, or have you checked the HCL on here to see if that offers any pointers? |
I never forget to mention these two websites:
www.linux-laptop.net www.tuxmobil.org Check if anyone else has installed (SUSE) Linux on your laptop model... you might find answers to problems you have not yet encountered :) |
I am in the same boat. I installed SUSE OSS-10.0. I had the issues with the boot. I fixed this as described in the bootloader options. If you are having an issue with the WLAN card, let me know, I fixed that with ndiswrapper. If you need help, give me a quick shout out at konsole@msn.com. I am a newbie, but I am working on overcoming all the issues on my Toshiba A75-S229 with Suse 10.0.

I did not have to do anything with the WLAN. It worked perfectly from time go. I even reinstalled SUSE and put the KDE on and everything execpt the ACPI works
