acer with no operacional system. Cant run the pendrive with ubuntu

Hello!

I've bought a notebook (ACER travelmate 117 B) without operacional system.
I created a pen drive with UBUNTU 16.04 through Linux Live USB Creator (LILI). Then I stick it in the notebook. But it didn't work.
I tested at another notebook and run normally.

What I have is a screen with 2 options:
1) "start acer_linux" [when I enter, an dark blue screen shows and thats it]
and 2)troubleshooting --> "star acer_linux in basic graphics mode". Then I enter and appears:
localhost login root (automatic login)
[root@localhost ~]#

I imagine this is already linux running, but I don't know what to do there.

When I turn it off and restart and enter at the prompt device, I have:"minimal bash-like line editing is supported" and then "you need to load the kernel first".

Why I can't just install the pendrive version? What should I do? Please, help!

Yes, that prompt shows you that you have Linux running. It also shows that you are root, which means you can install software. The other option should give you a graphical desktop, but it may be that you have a graphics card that is giving you trouble. It would help us all if you could tell us what kind of graphics card you have.

First a quick check. At the prompt, type startx and see what happens. If you get the blue screen again, try clicking or right-clicking on it and see if anything comes up. If not, you definitely have a graphics problem. In which case ctrl-alt-backspace should close down X and get you back to your prompt.

Next type ls to get a directory listing. Hopefully there should be a help file telling you what to do next. It should be possible to install from the command-line, even in Mint! And once you have a full installation, you can sort out any video driver problem.

You might have UEFI boot enabled, which will ignore the USB drive. Try enabling legacy boot and make sure USB boot is first in the boot order. You need to press F1 or F2 during boot-up to get into the BIOS setup. F12 should give you a menu where you can choose legacy boot mode.

Razel and rtmistler, thank you a lot! It works! In the end, I manage to open the BIOS, change the boot priority and the pendrive run. I also choose the legacy mode because after installing I had some difficult and realize that the UEFI boot was the problem. All solved now. Lets wait for news doubts.
Thanks!

That explains the odd labels like acer_linux, which I believe bothered another poster. Not all UEFI chips give you a nice boot menu but yours obviously does, and these are the names it uses, combining the machine name with the program label.
