Acer TravelMate 240

Does anyone know if Fedora Core 4 is compatable with the TravelMate 240 laptop? If not can you tell me what I could use instead.

Thanks

Depends on the amount of RAM and CPU power. Could you post that?

Acer Travelmate with FC4

I can't vouch for the 240, but I have a 290 and it works a CHARM.

I used a live CD to repartition the disk and made it a dual boot machine.

It's got an Intel Celeron 2.4GHz and 512MB DDR SDRAM

I think you'll be fine

The 290 has only 128 MB of DDR SDRAM and the processor is half as fast as yours, and it works GREAT.

Back up your data and give it a try -- what do you have to lose? I have found Acer restore discs to be trouble-free.

I recommend you create a dual-boot machine, since even with Wine (or Crossover, which I prefer), there may be Windows apps that you will need which will not run well under Linux. I keep my Windows partition just because of one app. I use Windows about 5-10% of the time.

Maybe you could help me out a little here? I have an Acer Travelmate 240 also, and I am trying to determine which OS is best for me (other than OSX which is on all my Macs). I have looked at Fedora and it seems great, but I am new to this whole world of linux. How would I run my Office applications if I were to install linux - is it even possible?

The other thing is that I don't have my restore discs for my machine. I was considering Windows on one partition and Fedora on another - would that work? If so, how would I go about it?

I'd appreciate some help, thanks.

David
