Acer Aspire One with Linux Mint - webcam/mic

I have looked for quite some time for information about this, but still can't find any. Hence the thread...

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook, which originally ran Windows XP. After an amusing series of events XP got wiped and replaced with Linux Mint. So far it's much better, but I can't get the built-in webcam or mic to work.

Does anybody know of anything I can do to resolve this?

I got the AAO last month with Windows and split the partition to add Debian on mine. For the webcam, I installed Cheese and it works okay. Try installing Cheese and see what happens.

Now that you mention it, I haven't tried the mic at all, so not sure if it's working or not at the moment. I'm at work but will have to look into it.

Since Mint is based on Debian, give this link a look.

I can't say I've tried the mic on mine either.. but the webcam works without any issues in Debian for me as well.

My Macgeek friend would like to point out that it's a blatant rip-off of Apple Photobooth.

I for one don't mind. It works, after all. But the video recorder didn't capture sound, so I guess I'll keep working on that.

Hey apple makes some nice software..The windows camera viewer app is pretty bare bones basic.. I think the extras in Cheese are kinda neat.

Tell your friend Apple is also great at taking Open Source software and give back little if any at all.

Also ask him where did 'spaces' come from...with linux we call them virtual desktops.

I have the same problem, i called up acer and they that the video recording software that came with the linux os does not support the microphone. also the messenger aswell does not support webcam or nudge when using an MSN account!

The webcam in the aspire one should work with no issues.. (Mine does in Debian Lenny) it uses the uvcvideo driver, you can test it with cheese

Acer Aspire One cam and mic
I, like others, have a new Acer Aspire One net book. I am using Linux Mint7 installed within Windows XP (ala wubi), and it seems to work well. I installed Cheese, and can get a video image, record video, and still pictures. However, I'm not able to use, for example, STICKAM, and get an image from the cam. And, as with others, the mic doesn't work. Has there been any progress on these matters? (Don't kill the noob, thanks!)

Both arch and Ubuntu wikis contain info about getting the internal mic working.. Mint is based on Ubuntu if I'm not mistaken, so maybe a peek at the AspireOne Ubuntu wiki would help.
