despite most people saying they no longer get connection dropouts in jaunty 9.04 i still do, especially when downloading anything! the file will appear to download okay but will be corrupt. This makes it impossible to use bbc iplayer since the player will get stuck after about 20minutes of use. It always relates to some "unsupported jumbo" message from the module which sounds incredibly helpful to the non module programmer :P
I have found many issues relating to this but they all appear to have been sorted in jaunty for those lucky people at least. No one has been able to give a straight reason as to why this happens though. would be nice if there was at least a work around.
look forward to hearing some suggestions

yeah i installed backports and the driver is still naff. annoying how that didnt work. madwifi if memory serves was no good either for me. i'd love to try ndiswrapper if it would work until the ath5k issues are fixed.
I run the Madwifi-openHAL driver for the wireless on my Acer Aspire One (AR5007/AR2425) and it works flawlessly..
It was the recommended driver from the madwifi-project team. ath5k Doesn't work at all for me in Debian Stable.

just do a search for "ndiswrapper vulnerability" in google.. there have been a lot that have popped up, been fixed, then a new one pops up, fixed.. repeat. then the recent round of emails with Linux over the status of ndiswrapper. Just too many isues for me to bother with. Part of the issue is that ndiswrapper runs as root, so if it's exploited, the attacker has gained root access.
If theres a native driver available I would never consider using ndiswrapper. call it a personal choice. I always check any wireless hardware before I purchase to ensure Linux compatibility and no need for ndiswrapper. that goes for any add in cards, or built in wireless as on Laptops, etc..
