Acer 5100-5840 Webcam Working

I thought I would post this here since I got is working on this notebook. Should work many of the new models as well

Have the same on my Acer 5100-5840.
As of 10-14-07 I am running RHEL 5, Kernel 2.6.23.1, KDE 3.5.7 and beta KDE 4

Acer Specs http://us.acer.com/acereuro/page9.do...crc=1757218077

Well got to mess around today and found UVC. Works with my Acer webcam as detailed above. http://openfacts.berlios.de/index-en...itle=Linux+UVC

I downloaded the SVN source file and extracted to a directory.
Ran ' make ' and then ' make install '
I was then able to run the command ' /sbin/modprobe uvcvideo '
Ran the command ' dmesg ' to see the results.

Next installed luvcview and ran the command luvcview after it was installed.
Green light came on and a window open with my face in it.

Posted this here as well. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...3zwsmi-577902/

I have tried kopete but must be the newest version at least 2.12.6 or newer. Also played with an app called uvc-streamer. Not that great in my opinion.

I would like others to post here the models that work as well.

For help on the ENE Technology card reader check this link. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...3/#post2923960

Hope this helps everyone.
Brian
