A305 Series Toshiba or S6839 Restore CD

Before I jump into U/Kubuntu, does anyone have experience with the options of the restore cd? I have done the complete restore to factory, but what if I partition? Can I restore to "factory" on the Vista partition?

When you say "restore CD" do you mean Vista or Ubuntu?

Also, while not relevant to this question, I'll give you an answer to a question that I know will come up if you're installing to a laptop with Vista already on it since I just went through this hell: Ubuntu is a royal PITA! It will insist on repartitioning your hard drive to its liking regardless of the version (funny, just I thought it was only supposed to be M$ that did this). I don't recommend it at all. I know the Ubuntu fanatics may want to roast me for this, but I got fed up with it. (FWIW, I don't know why, but I've never been able to get Debian or anything based on it to work on any of my machines--again, no idea why.)

Once I had a dual-boot working, I couldn't get the Vista restore to work again (assuming it ever worked at all); I don't know whether this was because the hard drive was partitioned different than the OEM made it or what. So beware, but YMMV.

Finally, bear in mind that WINE is very advanced now and most all programs work with it, so ask yourself: do you really need to keep Vista?

Mike
