3d acceleration on suse 9.3 with a compaq m700 (ATI 3drage p/m mobility)

Hi , I am trying to get the 3d acceleration enabled on my compaq armada m700. The onboard card is an ATI 3d rage P/M mobility agp 2x. When in yast 2 it declares that 3d acceleration is unavailable. As a complete newbie to linux i am completely lost here. I've had a search around and found many solutions for other distro / versions. To be honest it makes no sense to me cvs this dri that snapshots???? : ( ....I really need some help and thank anyone in advance for any help.

I have a M700 also. Even though I've never encountered any problems with OpenGL, I have not managed to enable DRI (Direct Rendering Infrastructure) on this laptop. It should be possible, however.

I looked into these , There is a lot of information here although i cant see any one who has enabled 3d support. But still there are many things i didnt consider like power saving. So this is a great resource Thanks. I have been playing around with the DRI thing although i dont know what im doing and it isnt going very well Anyone got any sucess stories with this??.
