3d Acceleration?
 

System: Toshiba Satellite 1900
OS: Redhat 7.2
Graphics card: ATI Mobility RADEON M6-P

So I have really no idea where to start on this, so if someone could pinpoint a suitable how-to or something alike (or a step-by-step would be perfect) for my problem. I need to install the 3d accelerator driver to support OpenGL rendering (tha'ts what Point2Play told me). Only I have no clue where to start. I've googled a bit but didn't really get smarter.

In which distro do you want to run this?

I know that in Mandrake you get this stuff out of the box for some cards (for my Radeon anyway...but its not a Mobility).

As for the drivers do a search for gateos (I think that's the correct spelling) on this board and that should point you to a link to get you started (as well as a bunch of info)

I have the same ATI Mobility M6 16MB card in my Dell Inspiron 4100.

With RedHat 8.0 and XFree 4.2 I could never get 3D acceleration to work. I upgraded to RedHat 9 in order to get the latest XFree 4.3, and OpenGL was no problemo as long as I use 16bit color on the desktop. The clue here (for me) is the XFree driver. Hope it helps.

It seems that you need either Xfree 4.3.0 or the open-source ATI drivers.
I do not know if there are Xfree 4.3.0 RPM packages available for RedHat 7.2, and although you can compile it, I recomend you upgrade the Linux distribution if you have the time and convenience. I have heard that the upgrade to RedHat 9.0 is painless.
