3c59x wont detect 3com card

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Im using a 3com pcmcia LAN card (3ccfe574bt) in a thinkpad 560.

At boot, using RedHat 5.1 diskettes, I tell it to use the 3c59x (Vortex) driver to detect the card, but it cant. Its in the bottom pcmcia slot. Do I need to specify other options ?
I am trying to insall across a network.

Thanks for any help

the laptop im using doesnt have an operating system. So im trying to isntall from in teh internet using a LAN card.

Once the floppies have laoded, I choose FTP, it says choose the driver you want to use, I choose 3com 3c59x (vortex), it then says to put in any additional info (I dont know what goes here so i leave it blank), then it says autoprobe could not find the specified hardware.

Do I need to give it extra options ?

does the installer allow you to run commands? if so try 'modprobe 3c59x' or 'lspci' and give us the output.

what is the 'additional information' it asks for? is your computer hooked up to a lan via a router? maybe you need to specify an IP address to use or whether your router supplies it with DHCP, and also maybe you need to suppy the default gateway (IP of the router). let us know how your network is physically set up and the exact output/prompt that appears.

the installer doesnt allow me to run commands.

I think the extra information is where to look.

And yes, my network is though a router.
