[sis] intel 537 (win)modem

Hello

I have a laptop with sis chipset and an Intel 537 modem. I read stuff on linmodem.org and tried the slmdm-2.7.10 driver (which was recommended there) for my device.

The problem is, when I insmod the module, i get unresolved symbol errors. I am not sure whether this is because of some misconfig i made, or that this is a sign that the driver is not for my device.

Anyone an answer for me?

Thanks.

Try first:

modprobe <module_name>

to see if it's missing other modules it needs, and/or:

insmod -f <module_name>

which should force load the module despite the unresolved symbols.

Your problem may be that the module was compiled using a different compiler version than your kernel. I get this using a PCTel modem (module compiled with gcc 2, but my kernel is compiled with gcc 3). Still works, though

thanks i found out what the problem was :-)

Some kind of missing MODULE_LICENCCE tag, thats why depmod and insmod failed. modprofe worked, i didnt even had to force loading :-)

Thanks anyway

Go to:

ftp://ftp.smlink.com/linux/unsupported

and download the slmdm-2.7.10.tar.gz file. The newer versions don't work with the same variety of modems as 2.7.10. . Plus this only seemed to work with 2.4.xx kernels for me, the 2.9.6 file apparently works with some newer kernels but i didn't have much luck.

If you don't have a lot of luck then go to:

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il

and have a look round, there's lots of info about a variety of modems and a tool called scanModem.gz which will give you lots of extra info and suggestions.

Cheers
Amos
